Open width knitted material is fed into the machine at the levelling section. The material is usually stretched to a wider width, which results in an immediate shrinkage in the longitudinal direction. During the stretching, the material is wetted evenly by absorbing a large amount of steam and water vapour. The material is then fed into a pair of compacting felts, which provide the shrinking effect. After the treatment, the compacted material can be plaited in a loading trolley or roll goods. To achieve the required shrinking effect, the tension on the fabric is precisely monitored.
For the final finishing of knitted material in open width form to improve hand feel, reduce shrinkage and ensure a better dimensional stability of the fabric.
