Square Group
2013

Sqaure Group is a leading textile and apparel manufacturer in Bangladesh, since 2001. The company has been successfully supplying to some of the leading European brands such as Hugo Boss, G Star, Soliver, Puma, Marks and Spencer, etc.

To retain its world class clientele, Sanchia Chowdhury, Director, Square Fashions Limited, relies on state-of-the-art production technology and has a clear focus on meeting internationally recognized social and environmental standards.

“We are performing in the world market, maintaining world standards,” says Sanchia. “We are the first apparel company in Bangladesh to set up an effluent treatment plant. We moved into rainwater harvesting to meet the water requirements of our dyeing facility, this is quite unique in the industry,” informs Sanchia.

Focus on world class technology

While the focus was always on proven European technology, the company has many installations of FONG'S machines. China’s FONG'S has been partnering with the industry to green textile production.

“FONG’S machines offer high quality production with affordability. We are happy with the performance of our FONGS machines. Recently we added 15 machines for dyeing sewing thread. Reliable performance has resulted in huge savings by reducing wastages, maintenance costs, and ensuring the perfect quality, batch after batch. Besides, these machines are easy to operate, and are much preferred by our production managers and supervisors,” certifies Sanchia.

Md. Akther Hossain, Deputy Manager at Square Group expressed complete satisfaction with the working of FONG'S machines. “The technology is user-friendly, and my team can run these machines confidently,” he said.

Resulted in huge savings by reducing wastages

Square installed the 15 sets ALLWIN package dyeing machine and LABWIN Laboratory Package Dyeing Machine. Square has LABWIN Laboratory Package Dyeing Machine from 1 to 12 packages per single kier. It is very flexible for them to have trial before the industrial production. After Square got the satisfactory result from the LABWIN and the whole trial can be repeated in ALLWIN for industrial production. Both equipped same functional features. The process data developed on the LABWIN can be applied to ALLWIN with very little adjustment. Therefore, any improvement in the production process can be simulated on the LABWIN machine before starting the industrial production. As a result, FONG’S LABWIN Laboratory Package Dyeing Machine helps Square to prevent the huge loss due to unexpected damage in the industrial production which the trial run can be reflected before. For all the FONG'S dyeing machines were tailor-made special for Square sewing thread to enhance customer’s products quality as well.

Square Group believes in ethical business practices

Square Group was started by Sanchia Chowdhury’s grandfather, late Shamson H Chowdhury, a respected entrepreneur in the country. The company, under the present management, has grown from strength to strength. “The company is managed by professionals, and not by the owners. We have always tried to follow the best practices in production, social and environmental issues. We do not indulge in undue price competition, which is the bane of the industry today. Our clients are with us because of the quality of product and service we offer, upholding business ethics and legal standards.”

According to her, while the industry faces a lot of challenges – shortage of skilled manpower, utilities, poor infrastructure – the biggest obstacle to growth is price-undercutting by unscrupulous players.

Sanchia is optimistic about the future of the textile industry. “Compliances are a must in the business, and everyone in a company needs to be aware of this. Buyers too have a role to play in understanding the problems, and working as partners with the industry. The Bangladesh garment industry is here to stay, we just need to improve the business environment.”
